The Festival of Lights

The city of Lyon hosts the famous Festival of Lights every year. Originally a religious tradition, it has become secular over the years but has not lost any of its traditional charm. Taking place over the month of December for a period of 4 days, this event attracts millions of curious people from around the world. This has earned it the 4th place among the most festive events in the world by the number of visitors that the Festival of Lights in Lyon welcomes.

Discover iconic sites in Lyon adorned with lights and artistic installations such as the giant wave at Place Bellecour, the colorful phoenix at Place Pradel, the huge serpent and ricochet waves on the surface of the lake at Parc de la Tête d’Or… Over 4 evenings, Lyon offers about thirty works combining scenographies on monuments called “mapping” and other innovative and surprising light shows. Many lightings have become permanent over the years. The people of Lyon also love to continue the tradition by decorating their windows and balconies with lights called “lumignons” for the duration of this event.
