Afternoon team-building: unusual Jeep outing to discover the Þórsmörk Nature Reserve!
-
·
Þórsmörk is a valley nestled between mountain ranges and three glaciers: Mýrdal, Eyjafjalla glacier – where the famous Eyjafjallajökull eruption began in March 2010 – and Tinda glacier. From these three glaciers flow beautiful glacial tongues, as well as numerous glacial rivers.
-
·
Along the south coast, we will visit the lovely Seljalandsfoss waterfall, continuing along the Mýrdal Glacier, on a mountain track closed to the public in winter, to Þórsmörk Nature Reserve, or Thor’s Forest, the Norse pagan god of thunder.
-
·
Despite this volcanic and desert environment, the nature reserve itself is a surprising oasis of greenery, lost amidst grandiose landscapes. Due to the difficulty of access, especially in winter, few travelers have the opportunity to admire this jewel of the wild Icelandic nature!
-
·
The group will have the opportunity to go for a walk in the nature reserve, notably the Nauthúsagil ravine, as well as the Gígjökull glacier and its surprising beauty.
-
·
In the vicinity of the glacier, the effects of the recent volcanic eruption are particularly evident, with a significant deposit of volcanic ashes; the summit of the new crater of “Eyjafjallajökull” is also visible.
-
·
Return to the hotel.
-

Dinner at a restaurant on the shores of Lake Reykjavik.

-
·
Excursion to Reykjanes and Grindavík:
-
·
Reykjanes is a peninsula formed directly on the North Atlantic fault, which separates the continental plates. It is thus one of Iceland’s active volcanic zones.
-
·
First stop just outside the village of Hafnarfjörður, exploring the origin of the Icelandic fishermen’s saying, “the smell of fish is like the smell of money”!
-
·
On our way, we will stop at Krýsuvík to observe its hot springs and the surreal landscape that surrounds it.
-
·
Arrival in Grindavik for a quad biking activity.
-
·
You will take an hour-long excursion off the beaten path in the wilderness of Iceland. You will be split into small groups to further explore the volcanic part of Reykjanes and to appreciate its rugged landscape created by layers of lava flows, ancient craters, and mountains. This activity is particularly suitable for those who enjoy the great outdoors, adventure, and have a desire for escapism.
-
·
Lunch at a typical city restaurant specializing in fish-based dishes.
-
·
After lunch, you will go on a tour around the Reykjanes Peninsula including 3 stops:
-
·
The “bridge between two continents”: a pedestrian bridge built over a major fissure marking the separation between two diverging tectonic plates. The bridge symbolizes the connection between Europe and America.
-
·
Gunnuhver; a major geothermal area on the island featuring an impressive mud pool formed by a hot spring, within a 20-meter diameter crater.
-
·
Finally, one last stop is planned at the Reykjanes lighthouse: the oldest lighthouse in Iceland.
-
·
Then, you will be taken to the Blue Lagoon for a warm moment.
-
·
A stop of just over an hour is planned so you can enjoy a swim in the silica-rich and naturally warm waters of the Lagoon, known for its rejuvenating and healing properties. An unusual team-building moment!
-
·
Return transfer to your hotel.
-
·
Gala dinner in a lounge of the ancient theater of Reykjavik overlooking the lake, which will be privatized for the event.
-
·
Various activities (magic, dance night, clubbing with DJ…) can be added to the organization of your last evening.
